D2 new runewords: This new D2R runeword is extremely strange

  •

Diablo 2 Resurrected's new v2.4 patch is anticipated to change the meta by having a host of the latest runewords, character rebalances, and gear adjustments. A new D2R rune word is revealed...and kind of odd.

A new D2R rune word has leaked. This time it's actually a revamped version of Plague, an existing rune word that was originally slated to discharge in D2R Ladder Runes Lord of Destruction v1.15 but was withheld.

For some reason, Blizzard is different from Plague's stats a little bit. Plague's order is different from Cham + Shael + Um, a hefty cost but a new use with the under-utilized Cham rune. The new version of Plague reads like some strange experimental build that features a very specific use case. Everyone's trying to puzzle out why you should use Plague over something similar to Hoto or maybe a powerful melee weapon like Grief or Breath in the Dying.

The biggest change is the fact Plague now uses 3 socketed swords as an alternative to general weapons. Another change is -1 to All Skills, along with the removal of +strength since Fal is not really used. Enhanced damage has become added, the industry's big bonus for raw damage. The other stats are just the same.

Plague was strange in the beginning, nonetheless, it had its uses, possibly for casters; YouTuber Drunski125 notes that Plague being limited by swords only is usually a mistake.

"If you can it in scepters, make a +3 Fist of Heavens scepter that you simply roll Plague in, which provides you with cleansing aura as well as an additional skill point; again incentive for something apart from Hoto. Let's say for just traps in you receive a +3 light sentry or +3 death sentry claw, you can roll Plague, get +4 to traps, cleansing aura--again, more incentive to make use of something in addition to Hoto."
