Elden Ring: Shadow from the Erdtree – 10 Things We Want

  • We have no knowledge about the first expansion to FromSoftware's open-world action RPG, but there are many things we want to see

FromSoftware finally announced an expansion for Elden Ring Items with Shadow from the Erdtree. However, with just one piece of concept art and rumors claiming it'll release after Armored Core 6, maybe it's a ways off. Nevertheless, there are lots of reasons to obtain hyped, whether it’s getting excited about the new bosses or exploring new areas. Here are ten things we’d want to see in the expansion, it doesn't matter how feasible they could be.

    elden ring items

A new region seems confirmed, though how large that region ought to be is unknown. The concept art teased a twisted, dark Erdtree plus some open fields, but there isn’t a lot more known beyond that. Some speculate that it requires a place inside Miquella’s dreams, which may explain his inclusion. Regardless, here’s dreaming about enough space to understand more about, several new NPCs with interesting storylines, newer and more effective bosses, and perhaps some backstory into his past if this proves true.

    New Legacy Dungeon

Of course, we wouldn’t mind a brand new Legacy Dungeon. These were the “proper” dungeons from the base game, though their quality would be a bit of a guessing game – Stormveil Castle being the most obvious favorite while Miquella’s Haligtree, ironically, is gloomier on the list. While a Legacy Dungeon needn’t stick too near to a castle-like architecture, something more tightly paced and structured with fewer platforming challenges could be ideal. Then again, FromSoftware might have something entirely different planned, so we’ll need to wait and find out.

    More Ashes of War

Ashes of War have experienced a rather interesting existence, with skills like Bloodhound’s Step and Seppuku causing uproar in PvP (before their inevitable nerfs). There’s also because you can’t make use of an Ash of War on any weapon type – it needs to be a certain Affinity, which will keep things balanced in the way.

We’d want to see new Ashes of War within the expansion, maybe some combinations – as an Ash of War that only activates when equipping two Greatswords or perhaps a Sword and Shield, regardless of the Affinity. Some passive Ashes of War, that are always active, wouldn’t be bad, even when balancing all of them with all another in-game buff could be a pain. Either way, Ashes of War requires a bit of a shakeup along with new types to hunt.

    New Weapons and Armor

It seems confirmed for any Souls-like expansion, but new weapons and armor will also be mandatory. It’d do well if some weapon types like Heavy Thrusting Swords, Twinblades, Flails, Great Spears, Reapers, Whips, Claws, and so forth received new weapons. Of course, a brand new weapon or two to help keep the Katana crowd happy should be also fine.

Brand new tools and weapon types would also do well – perhaps a brand new ranged weapon type. Armor is a touch tougher to resolve since there is a lot of potentials to mix and match within the current game. At the very least, we are able to only hope for cool-looking sets with decent stats.

    Transmog

Transmog continues to be one of the more highly requested features in elden ring items. For all of the amazing armor sets and looks within the game, players will gravitate towards those supplying the right amount of harm reduction and weight. Everyone will determine something that fits their overall play style, but Transmog enables them to experiment with their looks.

You can finally possess the fashionably conscious Tarnished you've always dreamt of without worrying about the mess of stats or otherwise meeting the attribute requirements. Of course, some type of loadout system for saving different armor sets and weapons with Transmog wouldn’t hurt either.

    New Sorceries and Incantations

Sorceries and Incantations have experienced downs and ups since Elden Ring launched, with various buffs and changes to ensure they are more viable for playing Caster builds. While a hybrid setup is most likely still ideal, the sheer number of spells available is fairly nice (particularly if you tear a boss down from 100 to zero with Comet Azur).

However, there’s still room to include more. Sorceries can use more Primeval, Aberrant, and Crystalian varieties, while Incantations need more Bestial and Blood options. New kinds of Sorceries and Incantations could be also introduced, and one can only hope for something unlike what’s now available.

    New Spirit Ashes

Again, new Spirit Ashes are obvious, however, they don’t need to be according to enemies within the expansion. There are plenty within the base game that lack Spirit Ashes, such as the Carian Knight, Crucible Knights, Haligtree Knight, and much more. How awesome would it be to summon a Rune Bear that wreaks damage to enemies?

It’s tough to speculate what new types of Spirit Ashes are going to be added since we all know pretty much nothing concerning the expansion, but having newer and more effective modifiers, like becoming stronger but eventually turning hostile as time passes, or self-destructing with an enemy, or upping your attack at the cost of their max health while summoned could be nice. Of course, having some fundamental commands to provide them may also add newer and more effective gameplay options.

    Torrent Customization

For all of the customization you could do for your character, the total amount available for Torrent, your Spectral Steed, was pretty nonexistent. Everyone jokes about “horse armor” DLC and just how we’ve come full circle, but having some armor and accessories to customize Torrent with could be cool.

Maybe some Trophies, as with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, that offer passive benefits. Less damage taken, an average damage increase when combating certain monster species, more materials scavenged, and so forth while riding could be pretty neat.

    Armor Recoloring

Another cool feature, though perhaps hard to implement, could be armor recoloring. Having different choices for dying armor, adding some patterns, and adjusting the contrast and brightness, provides even more cosmetic customization. There could be also a side quest in the brand-new region which involves obtaining the tools essential for dying your armor. Of course, the number of color options there ought to be, and how it'll interact with all of the armor sets is really a challenging problem for that developer.

    Boss Rush Mode

Finally, most importantly, there should be a Boss Rush mode. There is no way to rematch bosses within the base game if you don't use a mod or begin a New Game Plus playthrough. Boss Rush allows for fighting them again having to break any story continuity. There are already Coliseums available where Boss Rush fights might be hosted, and there might be different tiers (like 10 bosses, 20 bosses, and also the highest having all of the bosses, one after another).

Having different modifiers, like extra health, additional damage, and special fights in which you take on all members from the Golden Order would also do well. But most importantly else, we’d like to see co-op support, letting you group with two friends or matchmake and take on all of the game’s bosses for unique rewards.
